PARIS PHOTO
For the 27th edition of Paris Photo, PARIS-B is pleased to present the works of Jiang Zhi, Yang Yongliang and Hector Castells Matutano.
Jiang Zhi’s work shows flowers caught in flames and held in suspension by photography, where, although linked, they coexist in beauty and suffering. Yang Yongliang invites us to decipher the symbiosis between mountains and urban imagery, suggesting a possible reconciliation between nature and industry. These two artists, steeped in traditional aesthetics, have in common that they play with detail in their work, disrupting our relationship with the reality of the image. Their poetry is confronted by the challenges of today’s society.
Hector Castells Matutano collects images and brings them to life in a new light through collage and colorization. This process transforms the raw material into an almost psychedelic abstraction, encouraging us to question our initial perceptions and the possibilities for reinterpretation.
It is precisely these possibilities for reinterpretation that photographer Baptiste Rabichon explores. Why limit photography to the sole representation of reality? The artist assembles on a photosensitive surface images and flowers he has gathered for his 17ème series. The result is a composition, a kind of luminous montage that highlights the figure of Alice, emerging from the darkroom where the artist is working, revealing the vegetation intertwined with the body. The objects of the artist’s memories are offered to the eye in a distant temporality, where we no longer know how much of the imaginary is involved, seems infinitely smaller or larger.
