JACQUES JULIEN
From May 30 to August 30, 2026, the exhibition “Abstraction, abstractions !” will present the work of Jacques Julien, among a selection of major contemporary artists.
A founding practice of modern and contemporary art history, abstraction is explored here not as a rigid definition, but as a moving and plural territory. Through a critical and sensitive journey, the exhibition questions what remains of abstraction today, how it reinvents itself, and how it occupies current creation through diverse materials and geographies.
Within this open cartography, Jacques Julien develops abstract devices designed as “alphabets of objects.” With poetry and humor, he creates offbeat and unsettling situations, playing with scales and confronting materials to build a unique relationship between sculpture and fiction. The exhibition thus invites visitors to consider abstraction as a visual attitude, at the intersection of formal rigor and sensitive experimentation.
