PARIS-B is delighted to welcome the artist Artur Grucela for his solo show, entitled « Whispers from the undergrowth », unveiling their latest oil paintings.

“Painting has an escapist function for me. I’ve created my own separate world in which I feel good, and I keep creating new versions of it and populating it with characters” – Artur Grucela

In Artur Grucela‘s paintings, nature becomes a refuge where solitary figures wander, surrounded by dense, dreamlike vegetation.

Whispers from the Undergrowth invites us to discover a world where the everyday and the imaginary blur together.

For over a decade, Artur Grucela has been crafting a unique pictorial universe, halfway between realism and reverie. His work is distinguished by naturalistic and dreamlike landscapes, populated by often solitary male figures, captured in moments of silent introspection and surrounded by exuberant flora and fauna. His paintings, created primarily in oil on canvas, bring to life fictional landscapes that blur the line between the everyday and the imaginary, exploring themes such as escape, melancholy, and the desire to connect with nature.

In his paintings, the idyll of a prosaic reality alternates with fantastical, dreamlike, or nightmarish visions. His style is characterized by silhouettes sculpted in dramatic light, as well as by a subtle color palette and meticulous composition reminiscent of the masters of classical painting.

Having spent most of his life in a small town in southern Poland has profoundly shaped his sensibility and his pictorial language. Operating on the fringes of institutional structures and in constant contact with rugged mountain nature, he has developed a characteristic and enduring motif: the human figure within the landscape.

In recent years, Artur Grucela has continued to refine this personal artistic language: that of an ambivalent nature, both a refuge and a mirror, where humans seek not so much to dominate the landscape as to dissolve into it in order to better find themselves.

Largely self-taught, Grucela frequently incorporates themes drawn from myths, allegories, and biblical symbolism into his work, while also drawing inspiration from art history, film noir, and classical literature. His compositions are influenced by Romantic painting, the Flemish masters, and classical traditions; through subtle colors, stylized landscapes, and dramatic lighting, he creates paintings that are both timeless and cinematic.
